Year 4

Dear Year Four Families,

We would like to thank all our parents and students for their ongoing support and cooperation during these challenging times. Thank you for your amazing work in teaching and supporting your child through their learning. We’ve been inspired by the strong sense of community and togetherness among our year four cohort. A big congratulations to our year four students for all their hard work and achievements.

What an amazing 10 weeks we have successfully navigated. The students have adapted well to Zoom and have done an exceptional job at completing and uploading their tasks onto MyEd.

Our focus for our writing genre this term was expositions; persuasive texts. We studied the structure and important features of expositions and analysed different forms of expositions like advertisements and letters. We focused on coming up with strong arguments in support of a topic and against. We used various persuasive tools to help improve our writing and make our arguments stronger. Students were provided with pre-recorded teaching videos to help them format their arguments for their chosen topics. By the end of the term, students were well and truly confident to express their point of view and come up with supporting reasons for their chosen topics. Well done year four, we enjoyed reading your passionate expositions.

In maths, we revised written strategies for multiplication and division. During the first two weeks of term we focused on arrays and extended multiplication. We solved worded problems using a range of strategies. In the later weeks of the term we learnt about symmetry, volume and capacity, decimal fractions and collecting data. All topics were explicitly taught through our zoom sessions and our pre-recorded teaching videos. We were so proud to see year four’s outstanding assessment results for this term. A big congratulations to our students.

Science has been our focus for Integrated Studies this term. We explored plants in action and Earth’s biological surfaces. We learnt about the life cycles of plants and animals and discussed how living things depend on each other and their environment to survive. The students briefly looked at animal extinction and the importance of food chains. In the latter half of the term we studied Earth’s natural features. Students learnt about the different types of soil and where they come from. We discussed how erosion and weathering occurs in both natural and man-made environments. Remote learning resulted in a great deal of theory-based tasks this term but we look forward to a number of practical, hands-on activities in term 4.

Year four students waited with anticipation for their weekly art tasks. The students learnt about the elements of Art. Please enjoy some of our work below.

The end of term three was certainly a highlight for the year four students. We celebrated Crazy Hair Day and Footy Colours Day. Students got to dress up in their favourite football teams’ colours and design the craziest of hair styles. Check out some of our awesome photos!

To end the term, year four participated in a Virtual Camp. With so much planning involved for this event, it was a day full of fun and excitement. From creating blanket forts, making camp lunches to getting creative with chalk. The students definitely enjoyed their last day of the term. We had so much fun joining our classes together on Zoom and playing online team building games. Please enjoy some of our photos from the day.

Kind Regards,
Mrs Ceren and Mrs Esra
